Guest blog: Singing out against coal export
Coal is a dirtiest, most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, and I don’t see any way that this is the answer to our future energy plans. With a greater understanding of health impacts and disturbance from the coal companies current plans, I really wanted other people to understand what’s happening here.
Being conscious of how I’m living and impacting my environment is important to me, as it affects the quality of my life and the lives of those to come. During the planning of my second annual fundraising concert to support Climate Solutions through Team Up for Nonprofits, I became aware of some coal companies plans to export coal through the Northwest and my hometown of Bellingham, and the trains that would travel through my current town of Seattle.

I get pretty revved up when I see someone or something being taken advantage of, and the coal companies' plans to ship hundreds of millions of tons of coal through the Northwest (per year) to Asia could thwart any hope of stopping global warming. That’s a scary thought.
We need to Power Past Coal.
