Northwest Senators are serious about passing climate legislation
The fight for comprehensive federal climate-clean energy legislation that puts a firm cap on global warming emissions is heating up. Climate Solutions worked closely with the Northwest delegation, and we are pleased to report that a majority of our Northwest Senators signed on to this effort.
A letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) put forward by Senator Udall signals that the fight for comprehensive federal climate-clean energy legislation that puts a firm cap on global warming emissions is heating up. Climate Solutions worked closely with the Northwest delegation, and we are pleased to report that a majority of our Northwest Senators signed on to this effort, letting Congress know they are serious about passing a climate bill this year.
Of the 22 Senators who signed the letter, five of them are from the "Climate Solutions region".
Senator Merkley (D-OR) and Senator Cantwell (D-WA) have been steadfast and consistent in their call for climate legislation. Their signatures strengthen their commitment to getting this done.
Senator Murray (D-WA) plays a significant role in Senate leadership and her support for moving forward with comprehensive legislation will send a positive message to Senator Reid.
Senator Tester (D-MT) is a powerful voice amongst his fellow moderates in the Senate, and he comes from a coal state,.
And Senator Wyden (D-OR) has really stepped up his support as well. In addition to signing this letter, he has also been outspoken on the need to maintain Clean Air Act regulatory authority when it comes to solving global warming.
