Hot off the presses
Renowned Arctic explorer Will Steger has turned his passion for adventure to global climate change and clean energy because, he said, “We are all on an edge right now, and it’s an opportunity for us to think outside the box and learn what we can do.”
The expansion of clean energy represents the next major source of economic development and job growth in Washington, and the Tri-Cities is at the epicenter, a Washington congressman said Sunday at the Harvesting Clean Energy conference.
Farmers and ranchers are choosing to become actively involved because they believe that they will play a key role in harnessing the power of home-grown renewable energy sources and reducing this country’s dependence on fossil fuel.
The profits from sales of energy ptroduced by the turbines in the Wind Energy Project to the Grays Harbor PUD will be used to fund many social service programs, including Meals-On-Wheels and in-home care assistance for seniors, transportation services for the disabled and HIV/AIDS medical management.
In the energy sector alone, the deployment of new technologies, like wind and solar power, has the potential to support 20 million jobs by 2030 and trillions of dollars in revenue, analysts estimate.
