This Sunday, October 10, millions of people around the
world will join in hopeful climate solutions and send our politicians a clear
message: “We’re getting to work—what about you?” There are over 30
work parties in the Greater Puget Sound region. They are part of
5,500 worldwide! Local projects range from beach clean-ups and harvesting
produce, to installing solar panels and weatherizing homes. There’s a big Coal to Solar Fair at
10 a.m. at Gas Works Park organized by the Sierra Club and Sustainable
Wallingford. Most events are family-friendly and hands-on.
The Global Work Party this Sunday, October 10 is
sponsored by Climate Solutions' partner 350.org.
Climate science tells us that 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide is the
safe upper limit for our atmosphere to support healthy human life and the
ecosystems upon which we depend. In the last 200 years, we have shot from about
280 parts per million to nearly 390, and we’re still increasing our level of
global warming pollution every year.
Our colleagues at Moontown are co-hosting the
AFTER Work Party “Party” (7-10 p.m.) in South Seattle with our friends from the Global Music Project, Sierra
Club, Sustainable Seattle, and other great organizations. Feel free to stop by,
mix and mingle, and enjoy a tasty beverage (or two) while celebrating all the good
work communities are doing to reduce our carbon footprint. The party will
feature live and recorded entertainment from around the world. RSVP at
the Facebook
page so we know how many people to expect.
