Business Leaders for Climate Solutions

Business Leaders for Climate Solutions brings together executives, entrepreneurs and investors from around the Northwest who are committed to strong action to reduce global warming pollution and regional leadership in the transition to a clean and energy efficient economy. As concern about global warming grows, so do the business opportunities to deliver clean technology products and solutions. Regions with strong climate and energy policies in place are best positioned to attract new investments and generate new jobs in the global markets opening up around clean technology, renewable energy and energy efficiency. By leading the way on climate and clean energy policy, all businesses in the region will be best prepared to minimize risks, seize opportunities, and survive and thrive in the changing environment.

Core Principles

1. Climate change is a defining challenge for our time. If we act now, solutions are affordable and create business opportunities for our region – failure to act poses catastrophic risks to our economy, quality of life, and future generations.

2. As Northwest business leaders we support strong action to implement well-designed climate policy at the state, regional, and federal level. At a minimum this policy needs to limit emissions of global warming pollution to levels that reflect the existing scientific consensus and create a price on carbon emissions that will catalyze investment and drive powerful market-based solutions.

3. We also support strong supplementary policies that drive cost-effective reductions in global warming pollution in all sectors of the economy, reduce energy use, and spur investment in clean and energy efficient technology.

4. We are committed to helping our region to become a leader in the transition to a clean and lean energy economy through sustainable business practices, strategic investment, and support for good policy solutions.

Clean technology, and the creation of clean energy is a real industry with serious companies and serious investors… We can lead that growth or we can watch this industry grow in (and benefit) other countries. This is the decision we now face.
