Washington is renowned for its great snow and the ease of access to ski areas. Unfortunately, climate change causes earlier snow melt and less snow fall. Ski seasons are getting shorter and this will again adversely affect the tourism and recreation industries.
The Gulf oil spill and its devastating impact on the region’s fishing, recreation, and tourism economy have magnified the true costs of fossil fuel dependence. The fishing industry is at standstill. Related jobs are being lost. These economic impacts will only continue to spread.
