Democrats should rethink this white-flag strategy, which takes hand-wringing heed of the fall elections but ignores the need to ease the nation’s addiction to oil and to start mitigating climate change.
Senate Democrats have abandoned plans to pass a serious energy bill this summer. They will instead pursue a limited measure that responds to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and tightens energy efficiency standards.
