GUEST COLUMN: On global warming: We're not alarmists — just alarmed

Our planet is also sounding alarm bells — loud and clear. And its alarm is sounding on the impact of global warming — not 10 or 20 years from now — but today. It is happening overseas and in our own country. Few people are listening and fewer still are taking the responsibility to do anything about it.

 When my wife was alive, she was in charge of setting the alarm to wake us up each morning. As a teacher in Winston, Mary had to leave earlier than I. But I could always rely on her to get me out of bed in case I committed the cardinal sin of rolling over and going back to sleep. Now I set the alarm only for myself.
