People in the Northwest are generally supportive of energy independence. Our utilities have pioneered investments in conservation and energy efficiency, even with minimal incentives to do so. We have a proud history of supplying our own power through the development of hydroelectricity and, as a result, we are less dependent than many other parts of the country on expensive fossil fuels for electricity.
