Northwest should lead America's clean-energy revolution

Oregon and Washington are blessed with an abundance of natural resources and are equipped with the bold vision to lead the country's energy revolution.

As the events of the past weeks have shown, with thousands of barrels of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico each day, using fossil fuels may put our economy, our communities and our environment at risk. A clean-energy economy means an economy based on American innovation, jobs for rural communities and investment in our states. Transitioning to a clean-energy economy means avoiding environmental catastrophes and increasing our national security, as well as sending home paychecks for good family-wage jobs. That's something we can't wait for.
