The green light for the first West Coast coal export facility came only days before global talks on climate change opened Monday in Cancun, Mexico. Ultimately, it's those leaders of the world's nations -- not Cowlitz commissioners -- who are responsible for shaping international accords to curb emissions of greenhouse gases.
It's not fair to lay responsibility for the Earth's climate at the feet of the Cowlitz County commissioners who recently approved a plan to ship coal to China from a terminal on the Columbia River near Longview.
