The goal of growing a local biodiesel industry has proved popular enough to draw some diverse supporters to the plan, including eastern Washington farmers, and clean economy groups like Climate Solutions. Rep. Jacks said he expects support from Republicans and Democrats from both sides of the Cascades.

The Washington biofuel industry has learned a painful lesson over the last three years: an unenforceable law isn't much better than no law at all.
