Bio

A born and raised Seattlite, Alexis is a rising senior at Columbia University pursuing a degree in Sustainable Development. Through her studies, Alexis learns about social policy, economics, environmental ethics, law, and earth and climate science. Alexis serves as the co-president of the Student Union for Sustainable Development at Columbia, and is currently designing both a joint B.A.-M.S. five-year program and a class regarding gender and sustainable development. She is passionate about climate justice, water crises, and corporate sustainability, and sees her combination of living in Seattle and New York City as ideal for cultivating these interests. She has also spent the last three years working as a health educator in public New York City high schools, discovering an enthusiasm for addressing health inequity and family planning in the process.

Alexis is currently working on her thesis, an examination of women and their roles in sustainability, specifically focusing on impact investing. She spent last summer in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil studying community conservation practices and anthropogenic disturbances, and has also worked as the sustainability intern for NBBJ, a global architecture firm. Alexis is also working on business development for a student-created app that fights to address sexual assault on college campuses.
