Climate action: unstoppable

Tuesday was HUGE!

On January 27th at the Washington State Capitol, we officially launched the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energyand I am inspired.

We came together as a coalition of community, social justice, and environmental organizations, businesses, and labor unions dedicated to reducing global warming pollution, creating family-wage jobs and securing a better future for our families.

And we came in strength. More than 240 Washingtonians showed up to support the Carbon Pollution Accountability Act at its first Legislative hearing – some coming all the way from Ferndale, Edmonds, and Yakima. We more than filled the hearing room. In fact, we filled up an overflow room, then another, then spilled into a basement kitchen and the Capitol cafeteria. Support for bold climate action is broad, deep, and unmistakable!

Tuesday felt great, but you know as well as I do that progress on climate action won’t be easy – we need to stick together for the long haul if we hope to win. Together we must continue to stand up to Big Polluters, hold our elected officials accountable, and stand by those leaders who are willing to take action on climate.

Here are two ways to get involved right now:

1.  Email your legislators and let them know that you support the Carbon Pollution Accountability Act (HB 1314/ SB 5283).

 2. Let’s get together this Saturday. In Seattle and Olympia we’re partnering with the Environmental Priorities Coalition for a great event to share updates on the bill, to hear expert opinions, and to learn about how we can all make Washington an international leader on Climate. We’ll hear from community leaders with perspectives on the Governor's climate change legislation, and how new policies will benefit our state. We’ll cover the Carbon Pollution Accountability Act, oil transportation safety, and clean fuels standards, and leave us all fully equipped to supercharge the movement for climate action in Washington!
