Beaverton, OR is a city of approximately 90,000 residents, is Oregon's sixth largest city located in Washington County a short distance west of Portland and connected to the region by light rail.
Beaverton’s sustainability commitments are broad and deep, including participation in the US Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge, Portland General Electric Renewable Power Program, and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Leadership Club. Building on this leadership, Beaverton contacted New Energy Cities in 2013 to develop an Energy Map and Carbon Wedge analysis that showed the city’s leadership how it could achieve 40 percent reduction in carbon emissions by the year 2030.
