Creation care has had quite the buzz over the last several months due to Pope Francis’ blockbuster encyclical on the environment. As we move into fall, we have the opportunity to bring the Pope’s moral message to life as we ramp up efforts to stop fossil fuel export megaprojects in the Pacific Northwest. Now is the perfect time for Earth Ministry/WAIPL members to gather, network, and talk strategy.
Join Earth Ministry/WA Interfaith Power & Light for an overview of the Pope’s statement that calls people of faith to act now on climate change. The encyclical is historic in that it is addressed not just to Catholics but to all people of good will – including you! Learn the key messages of the pope’s letter to the world and return to your congregation with ways that “all of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements, and talents” (Laudato Si, 14).
Earth Ministry/WAIPL staff will explain the encyclical in the context of the current issues of our region – specifically, how you can help hold the “thin green line” that is preventing coal and oil companies from shipping fossil fuels from our coastal ports. Faith communities are taking a leading role in building a better world for all of God’s children as we shift our economy off dirty, dangerous fuels to safe, clean energy.
Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP (requested but not required) by emailing jessica@earthministry.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
