Momentum in 2022:  Embarking on a New Era of Climate Leadership

Watch the recording from our virtual event that was held on May 4th from 12pm PT - 1:30pm PT with featured speaker U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal

A former Washington State Senator and a lifelong organizer for immigrant, civil, and human rights, Representative Pramila Jayapal was recently re-elected to Congress for a third term. As the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Representative Jayapal is the lead sponsor of the Medicare for All Act, the College for All Act, the Housing is a Human Right Act, the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act, and the Roadmap to Freedom immigration resolution. In his role as Deputy National Climate Advisor and Deputy Assistant to the President, Ali Zaidi helps lead the White House Climate Policy Office, which is responsible for coordinating the policy-making process on domestic climate issues and monitoring implementation of the President’s domestic climate-policy agenda.

We also had a panel discussion moderated by Ash Awad, President & Chief Market Officer at McKinstry that included:

Patience Malaba, Executive Director at Housing Development Consortium, a nationally recognized and diverse network of organizations, government agencies, and businesses committed to producing, preserving, and increasing equitable access to affordable homes in King County, Washington.

Deepa Sivarajan, WA Clean Building Policy Manager at Climate Solutions. Deepa works to advance policies that will facilitate an equitable and just shift to clean energy in Washington. Deepa is passionate about ensuring that environmental justice communities are represented in local and state policy development and implementation.

We are thrilled these speakers can join us and hope you can too.

Buildings are one of the fastest growing sources of climate and air pollution—addressing building emissions is the next big thing in climate action. We're excited that our event will include a panel discussion highlighting the opportunities for clean and safe buildings, powered by our 100% clean electricity in Washington and Oregon. We can have buildings that are better protected from outdoor and indoor air pollution, more resilient and energy efficient, and that collectively lead to healthier communities and a healthier climate.

We are in a highly energized and historic time for local, regional, and national action on climate.

2022 ushers in a new era of climate action and solutions in the Pacific Northwest.

The clean energy transition feels more real than ever with the recent local and state policy wins in Washington and Oregon over the last 4 years. We’re ready for a new era committed to strong climate policy anchored in justice for communities disproportionately burdened by the climate crisis.

A core challenge of this new era is about turning our policy wins into progress on the ground. It’s not enough to simply pass good laws. We must make sure that our leaders and agencies implement new policies well, equitably, and inclusively, so that people and communities experience tangible, broadly shared benefits, and our states achieve their desired goals.

When we come together, we can create a unique opportunity to drive transformational change.

We need solutions like 100% clean electricity for our grid, cleaner fuels and electrification to power our transportation, and clean and energy-smart buildings where we work and live.

For close to 25 years, Climate Solutions has been working to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis.

With your help, we can continue to accelerate the transition to our clean energy future.
