Where are all the climate change songs? This is a question asked by Interfaith Climate Action (ICA), the group that sponsored the “Prayers for the Planet” Service and Candlelight Walk from EUMC to downtown Edmonds last December. Apparently, there are plenty of songs about climate change, but they are not familiar to most of us, nor are they played on radio programs with top 100 most popular hits. To address this void, and the one caused when no community-wide event was scheduled in the Sno-King area for Earth Day, Interfaith Climate Action; Snohomish Group, Washington State Chapter, Sierra Club; Sustainable Edmonds; and other organizations are co-sponsoring “Lifting Our Voices for the Earth: A Sno-King Gathering for Earth Day” Friday, April 22, 2016, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers in Edmonds.
Featuring well-known professional singers and songwriters Sharon Abreu and Michael Hurwicz, “Lifting Our Voices for the Earth” will entertain and energize citizens who want to work together to encourage institutional changes which will reduce human impact on this fragile planet as the climate changes. Sharon and Michael will entertain and inform as they present their program of music around the theme of climate change and the human impact on the earth.
In additional to Sharon and Michael (whose music can be viewed on youtube), the group Song Circle will lead the audience in additional singing, and Native American (and/or other) drummers will be there to recognize Earth Day and to support the audience as we pledge make our concern more visible.
