When it comes to buildings, the decisions we make today will have impacts for decades to come. Right now, the buildings sector is our second-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Washington state, and buildings emissions have actually increased by 50% since 1990. The good news is that we can turn this around by supporting Senate Bill 5293/ House Bill 1257, the Clean Buildings for Washington Act.
Tell your Senator today: Washington can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs, and make buildings healthier to live and work in. Support SB 5293/HB 1257!
The Clean Buildings Act comprehensively addresses emissions sources in several ways:
It creates a performance standard for new and existing large commercial buildings, and incentivizes early efficiency gains;
New large buildings that include parking facilities must be built to accommodate electric vehicle charging; and
Gas utilities must set and meet energy efficiency targets.
Together, these actions will improve the environment, our health, and our economy.
But we need to act quickly! This bill is likely up for a vote soon.
Email your legislators now to tell them you support the Clean Buildings Act!
Thank you!
