As you know, climate is on the ballot this November. Voting yes on Measure 113 will help Oregon's legislature function so we can make progress on climate. We can’t address systemic issues like climate change and equity in Oregon without a functional Legislative branch. In June 2019 nearly half of the Oregon State Senate walked off the job, vacationing in Idaho and Arizona, preventing the state from taking action on climate change. It is more important than ever for functional state leadership on climate change to ensure that we can pass the best policies and protections for all Oregonians.
Measure 113, the Hold Politicians Accountable measure, will ensure that lawmakers are held to the same standards as the rest of us. This measure would ensure that any lawmaker with 10 or more unexcused absences in a legislative session will be ineligible to run for reelection. If you no-showed to your job ten times without notice, you wouldn’t be able to keep your job, so why are politicians able to? Legislators should not be allowed to upend the entire legislative process and grind the State’s work to a halt for weeks or months on end. Let’s ensure that the people we elect to represent us do their jobs and are held accountable!
We are so excited to talk to voters about this incredible opportunity to improve the functioning of the state legislature. You can check out the great endorsements, news stories, and ways to get involved at the Hold Politicians Accountable website. We can’t thank you enough for being in this fight with us!
Onwards to the Polls!
