Energy-efficient, electric homes and buildings are key to reducing climate pollution, protecting health, and improving energy affordability. Oregon has the opportunity to scale climate-friendly heating and cooling systems while offering new pathways for workers and utilities in the clean energy transition.

Enter Thermal Energy Networks, or “TENs.” This tried-and-true technology offers the most efficient heating and cooling on the market. Leveraging gas utilities’ expertise and existing underground infrastructure, these networks efficiently transfer heat in and out of buildings while producing zero climate pollution, like a heat pump that uses steady underground temperature instead of air.
During this legislative session, Climate Solutions is advocating alongside Oregon’s gas utilities and labor partners to support legislation accelerating the adoption of Thermal Energy Networks. By creating a pilot program to allow utilities to gain experience with selling heating and cooling via TENs and supporting workforce training for gas utility and pipeline workers, SB 1143 will accelerate the transition to clean, electric buildings and create family wage jobs in Oregon’s clean energy economy.
The Oregon State Senate held a hearing on SB 1143 Wednesday, March 19th. Your voice is essential to moving this win-win legislation forward!
